What's your opinion on the song "Nobody Home" by Pink Floyd?

Many people have told me it was about Syd Barrett, but I know it's not. I think it's about Roger Waters and Pink (aka Mr. Floyd). The lyrics support that, yet, one part of the song IS about Syd, "I got the obligatory hendrix perm,

And the inevitable pinhole burns,

All down the front of my favorite satin shirt." Syd would do up his hair with so much stuff in it on stage, which looked like Jimi Hendrix's hair, pin hole burns, which are little holes that burn through your shirt from the ashes of a cigarette, but also, all the stuff Syd put on his hair would probably end up somewhere on his shirt after sweating and everything.

I've interpreted almost every line in this song, and want to know what other people think.

What's your opinion on the song "Nobody Home" by Pink Floyd?

Great song, The song is inspired by Syd, but is not adirect reflection of him. Syd had problems with LSD, "Pink" is a heroin junky. Waters may have chosen this drug due to the fact that he had seen so many of his contemparies addicted to this drug, and it was more widely used at the time The Wall was released.

It is talking about the loneliness he is feeling, even though as a rich rock star, he can afford anything (but companionship).

When he talks about the hairdo, it is in regards to "Rock and Roll Fashion" , giving you some visualization.

The pin hole burns are in regards to Heroin, he also discusses how he has "a silver spoon on a chain" to "cook" the heroin for injection.

Throughout the song he describes the contrasts between the great material posessions (Satin Shirts, drugs, grand piano, Gohills Boots, his black book of poems, which he ultimately creates songs and earns wealth from) and his loneliness/shabbiness (faded roots, trying to call but noboby answers, drug addiction, nowhere to fly to, nicotine stains,13 channels of sh_t.)

It is a good song but very sad. The classic Rock and Roll story. The poetry by Rog in this song is very detailed and you can almost feel "Pink's" pain. The way he sings it also brings out the emotion and torment the character is feeling.

What's your opinion on the song "Nobody Home" by Pink Floyd?

The depressive quagmire of "Nobody Home," is the awareness that such luxuries as well as a life based on them are hollow and meaningless. "Nobody Home," explains the true price of such a lifestyle. The possessions, the false relationships, all of the certainties on which he has based his life have fallen away leaving him alone, barren, and without a moral compass.

What's your opinion on the song "Nobody Home" by Pink Floyd?

Oh my gosh! It's an actual DEEP question! I love you, just for asking it. Unfortunately, I don't know the song well enough to give you an opinion =P

What's your opinion on the song "Nobody Home" by Pink Floyd?

I think it was the Syd Barrett inspired part of the Wall. I believe (but I'm not positive), that during the movie, it shows pink lying on the couch with shaved eybrows and a unsmoked cigarette buring down to his fingers. That scene was inrpired by Syd (Syd had shoved off all his hair and was seen lying with a unsmoked cigarette burning down to his fingers) so maybe the song is inspired by Syd. One thing I can be positive about is that Roger is definetly NOT the one with the Hendrix perm :0) and Waters had said the Wall is based on him AND Syd.

What's your opinion on the song "Nobody Home" by Pink Floyd?

Well, sorry to say it, but the other people have it half right.

The Wall was a horrifically harmonic love-child of Syd Barrett's life, Roger Water's life, and a bit of Roger's mind going nuts. So, the looks might be based on Syd, not to mention the feeling of being left alone; (or maybe that's just Roger's imagination running rampant again...) I'm not completely sure if Syd had some... ahem... adventurous gal-pals.

Nonetheless, great song, among my top 5.
