Looking for the title of an old song my 91 year old Mom sang to an 88 yr old civil war vet when she

The lyrics she remembered go something like this,

"One held a ringlet of thin grey hair,

One held a lock of brown,

Bid each other a last farewell,

Just as the sun went down.

It is a story of two soldiers from opposing sides conversing during a lull in the fighting. One held the hair of his mother the other the hair of his love. It would mean a great deal to my aging mother to get the lyrics and title to this lost song.

It's called Just As The Sun Went Down.

I'm looking for the lyrics now

In the mist of the battlefield,

Just at the close of day,

Wounded and bleeding upon the field,

Two dying soldiers lay.

One thought of mother at home alone,

Feeble and old and grey,

One of his sweetheart he'd left in town,

Happy and young and gay.

One held a ringlet of thin, grey hair,

One kissed a lock of brown,

Bidding each other their last farewell,

Just as the sun went down.
